A Parallel Approach to Mobile Affixation in Huave

Huave exhibits "mobile affixation", whereby the placement of individual affixes varies depending on phonological properties affix and stem. Kim (2008, 2010) analyzed these facts within a cyclic cophonology approach through interaction between alignment constraints (McCarthy & Prince, 1993) *CC DEP. Using same core components, this paper develops an alternative, fully parallel analysis.In approach, morphemes are unordered in input, every morpheme is indexed to its own (crucially gradient) constraint, output ordering determined entirely simultaneous constraint interaction. Notably, analysis captures previously unnoticed generalization about stability left/right order language.The main contribution new that it provides principled distinction mobile immobile affixes: affixes, as by relative ranking their constraints, correlates with ability trigger epenthesis, This follows from single language-wide ranking, but not account. Furthermore, can be tied directly morphosyntactic structure via Zukoff's (2020) "Mirror Alignment Principle" considerations Base-Derivative faithfulness (Benua, 1997).
